Congress will not tolerate anyone insulting chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, industries minister Narayan Rane on Friday. Rane coming out in support of the CM was surprising. He had criticised the CM last month for not having approved files from his dept, as also Chavan's indecisive nature.

Chavan had boycotted the function on Sunday at Nagpur organised to inaugurate the metro which prime minister Narendra Modi had attended. And this was criticised by many as immature on the part of the CM.

While he was addressing a gathering in Solapur recently, Chavan's speech was interrupted by BJP workers who chanted "Modi, Modi". The Haryana chief minister too was treated in a similar manner in that state recently. Chavan had boycotted the PM's functions in Nagpur on that account.

Rane also warned that in future the party would not tolerate any insult to Chavan. "Modi is the prime minister of India, and not of BJP. He and people in his party should respect chief ministers also. We should learn to respect people holding various posts and designations," said Rane.

Rane, who was appointed the state congress election committee head sometime ago, called the first meeting of the party to decide on election strategy on Friday. He said the party would kick-start its election campaign in the state from Hutatma Chowk on Sept 1 by lighting batons.

"All district Congress presidents will assemble at the Chowk on Sept 1 and take back one lightened baton each to his/her district. This will mark the start of the election campaign across the state. We will expose the BJP and its fraudulent promises. People have realised that the BJP govt at the Centre is not capable to bring down inflation.

There are no 'achhe din'. People are now facing harder days," said Rane.

He said in the campaign, the party would focus on the projects and welfare schemes undertaken by the Cong-NCP govt. "The state govt set the metro and mono rail rolling and constructed various highways and fly-overs to connect east and west. We have invested huge amounts in infrastructure development. I am sure people will appreciate our work and vote us back to power," said Rane.

Rane said the opposition Sena-BJP did not have any history of doing any good work. "They are more into shouting and unleashing false propaganda. They do not have any solid issues on their hand to corner us during the election," said Rane.
