The state government informed the Bombay High Court on Tuesday that the scope for probe in the irrigation scam will be "very wide" and include all aspects.

What was the state asked to do earlier?
Last week, the HC had asked the state to explain the extent to which it was probing the scam. The court's query had come after it heard that the Chitale committee has not gone into the alleged involvement of contractors.

What did the investigating agency say?
Advocate general Sunil Manohar submitted a letter before a division bench of justices Abhay Oka and Anil Memon, containing "terms of reference" in the irrigation scam.
However, after the advocate appearing for FA Enterprises, the contractor for Kondhane dam in Raigad, said the appropriate authority has initiated an inquiry against them for alleged violations of provisions of environmental clearance, Manohar said the investigating agency will look into it.

What did the petitioners alleged?
Counsel for the petitioners (AAP leader Mayank Gandhi and others) Mihir Desai informed the court that several dams which were being constructed, did not have environmental clearance and also did not follow the procedure for acquiring forest land.

Which corrections to the PIL has HC asked for?
Remarking that the Anti-Corruption Bureau, which is probing the scam, will not be in a position to take care of these points, the HC has asked the petitioners to amend the public interest litigation and include environmental clearance and forest land acquisition, so that the court can appoint appropriate authority to look into them.

The ACB has initiated an open inquiry against 12 dam projects in Raigad district for alleged irregularities in their construction
