Will bring uniformity in CBSE and state board exams: Vinod Tawde

Minister for Education Vinod Tawde on Monday announced that an expert committee would be formed to look in to the issue of disparity between HSC students from Maharashtra board and CBSE and to bring them at par.

Replying to a calling attention motion by MLAs Sunil Prabhu, Abu Azmi on the issue of admissions to colleges for HSC students from different boards, Tawde said that level of difficulty for both the Boards is of the same level. But, CBSE students get more marks than Maharashtra HSC board students.

Revealing the reason behind the same, Tawde said that CBSE board has only one language paper while Maharashtra HSC board students have two papers of language. He said are marked out of 650. It is difficult to score marks in languages which is why there is a difference in marks in students from these two boards, he observed.

Tawde informed the state assembly that as far as medical entrance or professional courses are concerned, it hardly matters. He told state assembly that by appointing a committee of experts, his department would try to introduce uniformity.

Echoing the sentiments of Chavan, Jayant Jain, president, Forum for Fairness in Education, said, "If the government brings quality education and qualified teachers for state board students, our state board students will definitely benefit rather then forming any committee."

On the other hand, Arundhati Chavan, president of PTA United Forum has different opinion. She said, "State board syllabus is diluted. Like CBSE, it is not concept based curriculum. Our textbooks also have so many mistakes. Hence our state board students are lagging behind."
