Widower, 71, ends life in Mumbai

A 71-year-old widower was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his Bhandup home on Wednesday night, the police said on Thursday.

Senior inspector Srirang Nadgouda said that the deceased, Ganpat Chaperkar, often told his children that he wanted to end his life. “No suicide note has been found, but we do not suspect foul play,” said Nadgouda.

Chaperkar, who lost his wife in January this year, lived alone as his four children are married. He had retired from a private company a few years ago.

Chaperkar’s son, Sanjay, found him hanging when he dropped by to visit his father around 9pm.

The body was sent to Rajawadi hospital for a post-mortem. A case of accidental death has been registered.
