As a part of its constant endeavour to curb graft, the State Anti Corruption Bureau has adopted a novel way to name and shame the corrupt babus. A month ago, the ACB launched a Facebook page wherein the photographs of corrupt officials taken immediately after caught red-handed are uploaded. Not only has this helped to create awareness but also is leaving people amused.

In most of the photographs the corrupt babus are seen sandwiched between ACB officials while being forced to pose for the camera thus generating peals of laughter. In one photograph Durgaprasad Shukla, an assistant sub-inspector with the Yavatmal police station who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs2,000, is seen trying to free himself from the clutches of more than 5 ACB officers surrounding him. In another case, a transport official was shouting and was almost in tears when caught by ACB Dhule's unit officials who too seemed to have had a hard time getting him to pose.

In some photographs, the officials are seen surrounding the accused and click photographs while examining his fingerprints or when he is trying hard to justify the act. Every photograph has a red circle drawn around the face of the accused, even if there is only one person in the frame.

According to the ACB, their Facebook page have earned more than 1,500 followers in less than a month, all thanks to the uploading of 40 such photographs. Pravin Dixit, DG of ACB, said, "We have asked our officer to name and shame the corrupt with the help of camera. With this, people are alerted about corrupt officials in their neighbourhood and we are receiving more complaints against them once their photographs are uploaded on the Facebook page. This will go a long way in containing corruption." It also create fear among other corrupt babus, he added.

Apart from candid pictures, details of the trap and the bribe amount along with other crucial details of the case are also furnished in the FB page. So far, ACB has laid 794 traps this year and caught 1,070 government officials.
