Whistle-blower and lawyer-activist Yeshwanth Shenoy who has earlier filed a petition in Bombay High Court over the alleged unsafe movement of aircraft in the city on Wednesday demanded an inquiry by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Ghatkopar chartered plane crash that took lives of five.

Shenoy alleged that Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is responsible for the accident that took place last week. He also wrote to the DGCA aircraft saying that helicopters serviced by Indamer Aviation Private Limited should be grounded as it is the same agency that carried out repair and maintenance works of the crashed charter plane.

In a letter to DGCA, Shenoy said, "It is very clear that Indamer Aviation was willfully and deliberately releasing aircrafts/ helicopters to service with substandard work. The Ghatkopar crash is a testimony to the same. We do not know which all aircrafts/ helicopters that are operational are defective. I request to order grounding of all aircrafts/ helicopters services by Indamer Aviation and get them inspected by the original manufacturer to ensure none of them have any defects that could lead to loss of lives and property."

Responding to Shenoy, Rajeev Gupta, Managing Director, of Indamer Aviation, said, "I do not know who has written to the authorities but I believe in the system, and if someone has written anything, the authorities will surely take required action over the same."

Gupta added, "Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is carrying out the investigations and the conclusion will help all of us to understand what went wrong on the other day, and what can be avoided in the future."

Further, in a letter to civil aviation ministry, Shenoy added, "I request you to ensure that investigation by DGCA is stopped immediately and Central Government should appoint a court of inquiry. The case should be transferred to CBI as state police is inadequately equipped."

Five people including four inside the test aircraft and one pedestrian lost their life after a charter plane took off from Juhu airport at 12.20 pm on June 28 crashed at around 1.15 pm in Ghatkopar. There were no passengers and the aircraft was on a test ride.

Meanwhile, Kirit Somaiya, BJP MP from Ghatkopar on Wednesday tweeted that, "Preliminary report of the crash is expected in few days, and final report in 6 montths. (sic)" Somaiya claimed that the crashed plane had permission for test flying.
