The entire exercise of corporators visiting another country is to learn civic lessons which could then be replicated or implemented back home. Such educational trips often turn into ‘junkets’ or mostly vacations for our leaders. Mumbai corporators were on one such trip when the city was struggling to deal with smog and pollution from the Deonar fire. Iamin brings you pictures of the corporators having a good time during their official educational trip to Andaman.

Before we get into how much Mumbai corporators learnt from their counterparts in Andaman, let us take you back by a year when Andaman municipal officers had come to Mumbai to understand BMC’s water and traffic plans which were then to be implemented there. This time, Mumbai corporators visited Andaman to learn about the very system they have been dealing with.

On the educational tour, corporators visited only three areas. On January 28, the day they reached the place, the team visited Andaman's Disaster Management Control department. The following day was spent visiting the municipal corporation headquarters of Andaman and a local dam. The third day was spent at a solid waste management plant. However, other than these visits and meetings, here is what they did during the rest of the trip:

An obvious question is- how can Mumbai learn from a place which so different from its demographic needs? But then, Andaman was not even the first choice. The initial plan was for them to tour a country in Europe, but the below freezing temperatures there gave some corporators the chill. So, on reconsideration, it Andaman was chosen as the destination.
