Western Railway revamps train coaches plying to Surat

The coaches will have improved interior and exterior for better travel experience of commuters

In a relief for first class pass holders on Mumbai-Surat route, the Western Railway on Friday said that it is going to use refurbished ten general second coaches in lieu of first class conventional coaches. The coaches will have improved interior and exterior for better travel experience of commuters.

WR in a statement said that said coaches are being refurbished as they were getting a lot of complaints from the passengers, and they were unable to provide first class coaches since Railways has discontinued manufacturing of those.

The first such refurbished coach is ready for use, and starting Monday and it will be attached to Mumbai-Surat Intercity Express.

The remaining coaches will go through refurbishment soon and attached to other trains running between the two cities.

"There has been a consistent demand from passengers to provide suitable stock exclusively for them. Considering this demand, refurbishment of the coaches for first class pass holders with various special features is being done. Coaches that were provided earlier to first class ticket holders were ordinary and were causing entry of second class passengers despite of specific markings," WR said in a statement.

Further, the exteriors of train is improved with designer vinyl wrap showcasing "Warli paintings", traditional tribal art from north Maharashtra. In case of interiors, most of them are changed including that of LED lights instead of conventional lighting, upper seats having cushion along with cushion on passenger seas downside being improved followed by mobile changing points in each bay along with bio toilets.

Wide mirrors on the wash basin with LED Mirror lights.

Mobile Charging Points in each bay.

Bio-Toilets in all lavatories.

Venturi based ventilation system in toilets to remove foul smell.
