After dna and Zee24Taas published a series of news articles highlighting irregularities in the functioning of Shikshan Prasarak Mandali, it has come to the fore that the appointment of Dr Uday Salunkhe as the director of Welingkar Institute in Mumbai was not in accordance with the norms of Mumbai University.

After the news reports about Income Tax raids on a number of Shi Pra premises in Mumbai in 2010, dna and Zee24Taas offices have been flooded with documents provided by various well-wishers of Shikshan Prasarak Mandali. Among these well-wishers is a freedom fighter, Balasaheb Jambhulkar, who has filed Right to Information (RTI) applications to collect information about alleged irregularities at the Trust, and even moved the Bombay High Court against Dr Salunkhe's appointment.

Jambhulkar had approached various authorities with a number of applications asking reasons why due procedure was not followed in appointing Dr Salunkhe as director of Welingkar Institute. Jambhulkar also asked for details about the Income Tax raids at Shi Pra Mandali premises, but in vain. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had appointed a committee to look into the queries raised by Jambhulkar.

The three-member inquiry committee of AICTE, which was headed by National Institute of Technology director Dr YV Rao wrote a report in which it clearly mentions that Dr Salunkhe's appointment did not conform to the norms of the Mumbai University. Interestingly, the report of the inquiry committee was sent by AICTE Western Regional Office to AICTE Central Vigilance Officer Dr SG Bhirud on February 25th, 2010. There has been no action on the report, said Jambhulkar. He said that he had no way out but to move court in this regard.

Neither Shi Pra Mandali nor Salunkhe have responded to any of the queries raised by dna or Zee24Taas. Moreover, Shi Pra Mandali refused to comment and to send a representative to a one-hour show on Zee24Taas, despite the fact that they were given a questionnaire beforehand.
