Hoping against hope, parents of Akshay Jadhav, one of the six missing Indian sailors in the Black Sea have travelled all the way from their native place in Kolhapur district to Mumbai. Yet, they have failed to get any news of Akshay.
Akshay is a native of Kosovo village in Panhala tehsil of Kolhapur district. He is the younger son of his parents and he was always determined to join merchant navy. "Initially I was not in favour of him joining merchant navy, but he was determined. On January 25 last year he got a job and went abroad. We were happy as he had achieved what he wanted, " Akshay's father Baban Jadhav said.
For one whole year, he has not visited his home. His father stated that he had plans of coming home on February 1. "For one year, we could not meet and since he was coming home in the next week, we all were very excited. We had plans of celebrating his one year of the job but things have changed dramatically, We are just hoping for some positive news of my son," he added.
Meanwhile, the officials from Directorate General of Shipping told DNA that they are constantly in touch with the Russian agencies to get updates of missing Indians. "Along with Akshay and Rushikesh, four other Indian sailors are still missing. We are in touch with the Russian agencies and whatever updates that we are getting from them, we are passing them to the families of missing sailors," a senior official from the DG Shipping's office said.
