South African cricketer Wayne Parnell, who was declared “wanted” in the May 2012 Juhu rave party case, surrendered before a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act court on Monday. Parnell, who also plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL), was accompanied by one of his friends to the court.

The cricketer’s counsel Advocate Makarand Narvekar informed the court that the moment Parnell got to know about the legal updates in the rave party case, he immediately decided to approach the court and surrender.

“As soon as Parnell reached India on Monday morning, he directly approached the court. This shows that he is a law abiding person and respects the judiciary,”said advocate Narvekar.

However, after surrendering before the court, the cricketer’s counsel immediately applied for bail.

The court, presided by judge IM Bohari, granted him bail on a cash surety of Rs10,000.

The court further ordered the player to approach the Juhu police station on June 10 and mark his attendance. The court has also asked the player not to tamper with any evidence in the case.

The police on May 20, 2012 had raided a party at Oakwood hotel in Juhu. The police had recovered drugs from the spot.

Total 90 persons were detained in the rave party case, including two IPL cricketers Rahul Sharma and Wayne Parnell. Total 86 people tested positive for consumption of drugs, remaining four tested negative.

The police had filed a 1,200-page charge sheet against 86 people while 35 accused, mostly foreigners, were shown as wanted.

The Kalina forensic science laboratory report stated that of the 86 persons, 62 persons had consumed cannabis, 3 persons had consumed cannabis-plus-cocaine, 20 had consumed ecstasy-plus-cannabis, while one had consumed only ecstasy.
