A gang of housebreakers active in south Mumbai has been busted by the crime branch.
The three-member gang had committed two thefts in a span of four days in JJ Marg and Nagpada areas of the city. The arrested trio has been identified as Akeel Khan, 22, Israel Shaikh, 24, and Mohammad Salim Shah, 35.
According to the police, complainant Mohammad Siddiqui Bukhari, 40, has a medical shop at Bukhari Manzil building at MS Ali Road.
On August 4, few unknown persons entered in the medical shop of Bukhari by breaking shutter locks and committed a theft of cash Rs 88,000. A complaint was registered with the JJ Marg police in this regard
Similarly, on August 8, few unknown persons entered in the Nagpada based shop of Umer Abdul Hamid Fruitwala, who deals in leather purses and decamped with a bag containing cash Rs 24,500.
Fruitwala had registered a complaint with Nagpada police in this regard.
“On receipt of specific information that people involved in theft cases of JJ Marg and Nagpada areas, a trap was laid in Sewree on Tuesday. They admitted their involved in these two theft cases. We would hand over their custody to the local police for further probe,” said senior inspector Nandkumar Gopale of crime branch’s Property Cell.
