Was Oshiwara flat hub for porn CD supply?

A day after a cache of compact discs (CDs) and digital versatile discs (DVDs) were seized during a raid in Oshiwara, the police said they are probing whether the flat was the hub to supply such discs across states.

On Thursday, about one lakh discs were seized from bureaucrat Om Prakash Gupta’s flat. Gupta, who holds the top post at the city’s bus transport body, had rented his flat to  Chandrakant Mukherjee, 58. Chandrakant and his son Samrat have been arrested. They have been sent to police custody till Monday.

Chandrakant and Samrat allegedly supplied the porn discs to other state and could be part of a bigger racket, said the police.

A police officer said that the initial probe has revealed that the father-son duo downloaded porn films, made copies and sold them in other cities. “We have seized a laptop and printer,” said the officer.

Senior inspector Nasir Pathan of Oshiwara police station said Gupta was unaware of the goings-on in the flat. The Mukherjees paid Rs80,000 monthly rent to Gupta and had been staying in the flat since six years. “Presently, it’s a two-year agreement and police clearance had been sought when the flat was first taken on rent. We’re checking if police clearance was taken when the last contract was renewed,” said Pathan.
