The Shiv Sena may be staking it claims to the Chief Minister's post after the state assembly elections due later this year. However, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tried to play down these demands, calling them 'gaun' (irrelevant) and stressed that Sena and BJP cadre must work for an "unprecedented" victory in the polls. However, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray hinted that the two parties had decided what had to be done after the elections.

"Aamcha tharlay (we have already decided). We will do what has to be done," said Uddhav, who spoke after Fadnavis.

"Sagla samsaman pahije (we want everything on equal terms)," Uddhav stressed, hinting that the Sena wanted an equal share in power after the assembly elections.

Fadnavis and Uddhav were speaking at the Shiv Sena's foundation day rally on Wednesday. Fadnavis became the first non-Shiv Sena leader and chief minister to be invited to the program.

After the two parties overcame their estrangement to announce their alliance for the Lok Sabha, Shiv Sena leaders claimed they would be the senior ally and get their nominee as the chief minister after the assembly polls. However, this was denied by BJP leaders. Adding fuel to the fire, Yuva Sena leader Varun Sardesai, who is Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray's cousin, claimed the two parties would share the chief minister's post for two-and-a-half years.

"We don't want power for the sake of posts and positions. There are many discussions on who will become ministers and the chief minister. This is irrelevant... Let the media discuss who will be the chief minister," Fadnavis said.

Fadnavis, who referred to Uddhav as his elder brother, instead asked the workers of the saffron alliance to have just one objective in mind--ensuring a sujalam, sufalam Maharashtra as was the dream of Sena supremo late Bal Thackeray. For this, they had to ensure an unprecedented victory in the state assembly elections. The victory of the Shiv Sena and BJP in 41 of 48 seats in Maharashtra, had set the ground for it.

"Uddhavji and we have already taken decisions about what will be done next. The right decisions have to be announced at the right time... You trust him and our (BJP) activists have faith me, so there is no need for anyone to get involved in this matter or discuss this," said Fadnavis, as the Shiv Sena top brass looked on.
