The Wadala TT police station on October 4 arrested a woman for allegedly helping her boyfriend extort money from a doctor. The main accused was arrested earlier by the extortion cell of Mumbai crime branch.

According to the Wadala TT police, Mary Jawaharlal Jaiswar, was arrested for aiding her boyfriend Kalimullah Khan in making extortion demand of Rs3 crore from a Wadala-based doctor. Interestingly, Jaiswar was working as a nurse at the doctor's hospital for the last few years.

"We had Khan in our custody... during interrogation it was revealed that all the information about the complainant (the doctor) was passed on to Khan by Jaiswar, and with that information, Khan would ask one of his associates to make a call from an Uttar Pradesh number and demand money," said deputy commissioner of police, zone IV, Ashok Dudhe.

"Jaiswar was a trusted employee of the complainant, as per what she told us, as she was allowed to handle all the financial matters related to the hospital. The complainant said she had never imagined that she (Jaiswar) could be involved in the extortion bid."

The Wadala TT police have launched a manhunt for the third accused in the case. "We have located the third accused and are hopeful of arresting him soon. He was the one who was involved in making the calls to the complainant," Dudhe said.
