It has not been an ideal voyage for the 52-year-old Polish national, who ventured out in the deep blue sea in his boat from Alang Port in Gujarat on February 23.
As soon as Eugeniusz Z Reket, reached near Daman his boat stopped functioning and started to drift. Unable to steer on the right course, Reket was rescued by the coast guards on the very same day.
Reket was asked to halt at Daman Port as they had to verify his documents. The boat he was sailing in had a Florida registration. Reket insisted on continuing his voyage to Vasai as he had some paper work to be completed in the consulate.
Once he got the clearances, Reket continued sailing. Unfortunately on his way to Vasai, he got lost. He was dependent on various light house to guide him. Initially, fishermen were suspicious of his boat as they had never seen it before. Later, on they too helped him.
Finally, Reket reached Vasai on Wednesday night. "After the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack, fishermen have become cautious and at the same time were scared thinking that a gun consignment had arrived. The news reached us and we quickly checked the boat and Recket's documents, which seem to be in are proper order," said a police official from Vasai police station.
"We have made a copy of Rekets' documents. Reket will be given a port clearance soon. Right now he has stopped here as he has to complete some formalities with the consulate," said a Vasai port official.
"He is pretty frustrated and was yelling in English, "In India, people ask for documents hundred of times be it Gujarat, Daman and now in Vasai," said a police officer.
