Effective self-defence education at her school came in handy for a 15-year-old visually impaired Mumbai girl who brought her molester to his knees in pain on a crowded local train on Monday. The girl dealt the swift retribution after which the man was handed over to the police.

The girl and her 56-year-old father were travelling in the compartment reserved for differently abled on the 8:15 pm fast train from Dadar to Kalyan when the incident happened, Hindustan Times reported.

The molester, 24-year-old Vishal Baliram Singh boarded the train behind them and staood directly behind the girl. Police said he started touching the girl inappropriately. That's when the 15-year-old decided to bring her education into play and take matters in her own hands, literally.

She caught hold of her molester's fingers and twisted them hard till he screamed in pain, and she kept twisting till he was brought to his knees. The man was handed over to police at the Matunga station, where the train stopped next.

The girl then insisted that an FIR be failed against her molester. He has been remanded in police custody.

Police who dealt with the case say the girl was not afraid at all, and the technique she used on her assaulter was so well carried out she may have been close to breaking the bones in his fingers.

"We are always easy targets for creeps like Singh," the girl said, according to Hindustan Times. "Our school teaches us self-defence and karate as part of our curriculum, so we can face the world despite our disability. I want the man to suffer, to ensure he does not repeat the act with any other 'easy target'," she said.

The incident underscores the need for self-defence to be made part of every school's curriculum. Not just violent methods, but the incident also has brought into focus the need to educate girls against victim shaming, which is unfortunately widespread.
