After completing a trial run recently, city airport authorities on Friday announced flight boarding through mobile phone, which will help in providing a seamless travel experience to passengers. Currently, the service is only for Vistara fliers; it will soon be started for other airlines.
Tata Sons-backed Vistara is among the newest airlines in the country to be operating out of Mumbai's T2 to New Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Goa.
Vistara officials said the mobile boarding pass facility is a time-saver for passengers and results in reduction of paper boarding passes. Overall, the mobile phone boarding pass facility will lead to another 'Experience Simplicity' feature, officials added.
According to airport and Vistara officials, customers making use of this facility from T2 will only need to choose the 'Get mobile boarding pass/Collect by SMS' option when checking in online or on the mobile app. The SMS from Vistara will contain the booking details and the link to access the mobile boarding pass. Customers need to take a screenshot of the pass, which is readable by the technologically advanced machines at T2's domestic departure level. Paper boarding passes are not required but customers would need to carry authorised photo ID as proof of identity.
MIAL CEO Rajeev Jain said, "Mobile devices assume centre stage of consumer convenience in the modern-day ecosystem. Technology-enabled innovation has become the trigger for differentiation and MIAL has consistently pioneered to introduce passenger-focussed innovations."
"We continually look for ways to enhance our customers' travel experience by harnessing the power of technology and offering operational and service excellence," said Phee Teik Yeoh, CEO, Vistara.
