Five days after a minor was abducted in Andheri, the Sahar police on Wednesday rescued her and a booked a 25-year-old youth for kidnapping. According to the police, the suspect had allegedly abducted the girl because he used to like her.
The suspect has been identified as Suraj Gawli, who works in a private firm and resides in Vikroli with his wife and parents.
The 17-year-old survivor, who lives in the same locality as the suspect, used to visit Mittal estate at Marol, Andheri (east) daily, for her tailoring course.
The incident took place on May 17 when the survivor was returning home after her tailoring class. She was standing at a bus stop, when Gawli allegedly kidnapped her. The girl's parents approached the Sahar police the next day, when she did not return home.
"We learned that the two were seen together before the incident and suspected that Gawli might be the culprit, so a police team was sent to his house, where it was discovered that he too hadn't returned home," said senior police inspector Ravindra Patil.
"We tracked Gawli's mobile location and found that both were in Ulahasnagar. By the time our team reached there, the two had left and went to Dombivali and Kalyan," said another officer.
"We kept tracking their mobile location and managed to nab Gawli on Wednesday evening at Andheri-Kurla road. The girl was handed over to her parents and, following their statement, we arrested Gawli on charge of kidnapping," said Patil.
