After having received permission from the Supreme Court, an official from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Bridge department has confirmed that the proposal for rail overbridge (ROB) at Vikhroli Station will be tabled before the standing committee on Wednesday.

The ROB construction had been pending since almost ten years now due to the ongoing court case over land acquisition for the bridge. The tendering for the bridge has also been completed.“The proposal will be tabled before the standing committee on Wednesday to kick start the work,” said the official.

The ROB over level crossing number 14C was planned in 2007 between Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Later, the project was handed over to the BMC.

The civic body had submitted the general arrangement drawing (GAD) to Central Railway and had received the approval. But, due to land acquisition issue with a private party, the work could not be taken up. The total length of the bridge will be 566 metre and the estimated cost of construction is Rs 45.77 crore. However, the civic body received the apex court’s permission to begin the work early this year.
