Alleging that attacks on police personnel had increased after the current ruling party came to power, leader of opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil on Wednesday demanded white paper on law and order situation in the state.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress state unit headquarters at Nariman Point Vikhe-Patil said that state Government has failed on all accounts and this government is a calamity in itself for the state. He said that meeting between chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on police attacks and other issues is nothing but yet another event in the series of event management of this government.

Citing an incident in which police inspector Vidyanand Kale threatened to commit suicide because of harassment and threat by from local MLA Narayan Kuche from Jalna was nothing but a testimony of failure of the government in providing protection to the police department. Vikhe-Patil said that it is for the first time that police department is feeling vulnerable and it is only because of the political interference, which is being backed by the government at various levels.

Citing another incident in Kalyan, where sub-inspector Nitin Dagle faced attack from workers of MLA affiliated to BJP and the workers tried to drown Dagale during the immersion procession on Tuesday, Vikhe-Patil said that there was pressure for not registering the offence. He pointed out that since the video of the attack on Dagale became viral, this incident has come to light. He said that the video clip clearly shows that the concerned police officer was abused by the workers of independent MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, who is now with BJP.

Vikhe-Patil pointed out that a police department employee from Nashik Krishnakant Bidve was attacked by an independent corporator and the said corporator Pawan Pawar has been inducted into BJP. He said that when political protection is provided to those who attack police officers and employees, it is but obvious that law and order will be at stake.
