Vijay Mallya opts for a quiet birthday in Mumbai

Talking about discreet celebrations, ever since his decadent birthday celebrations at the famed Kingfisher Villa ceased for various and obvious reasons, Vijay Mallya has replaced it with something of a sombre ritual over the last three years. This time as well, the erstwhile King of Good Times began his special day with an early morning visit to the famed Balaji Temple where he conducted a special prayer session in the sanctum sanctorum at “the lotus feet of Balaji” before catching an afternoon flight to Mumbai where only his oldest and son Sid’s closest friends were invited to give him company.

There was much father-son bonding, the booze was aplenty, pretty ladies frolicked around as pals raised a toast to the birthday boy at his sea facing bungalow on Nepean Sea Road. While there’s enough reason to be gloomy about the state of affairs beyond the high walls of Niladri, we’ve figured that there’s only so far he can curb his natural flamboyance — but at least he’s paying heed to well meaning advice about underplaying it for a while. Though his troubles haven’t abated much and the media also hasn’t been too kind to him lately, here’s wishing the charismatic Mallya a very happy birthday and hope he has a more positive year ahead.
