Residents near the recently-opened Grant Road Skywalk who have been complaining about peeping Toms looking into their houses will be relieved as the authorities have started installing view cutters on sections of the iconic walkway.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), which constructed the skywalk, is also putting up collapsible shutters to keep out beggars and drug addicts who otherwise make it their home.
Understandably they are a serious nuisance for people using the walkway.

Jayesh Rajput, a resident of Nana Chowk, said, "Recently, MSRDC officials came and checked the place and within a few days work started on fixing the view cutters. We are thankful for the prompt action."

An MSRDC official said that the work for fixing the view cutters should be completed in a fortnight. They are about seven feet high and should protect the homes of residents from the probing eyes of miscreants.

"The view cutters are being put up mainly where buildings stand right next to the skywalk, to guard the privacy of residents," the official said.

Residents as well as those using the skywalk had complained to the police and even approached their local representative about the nuisance caused by urchins and drug addicts. They said these characters peeped into their houses and would even make indecent gestures. (dna reported about this on August 5, 2014)

The oval cable-stayed skywalk was opened to the public on July 23 this year. Work started in December 2008 and was completed at a cost of Rs43.12 crore.

The walkway which is about 600 metres long and four metres wide connects Grant Road railway station to Nana Chowk and the roads leading to Tardeo, Kemps Corner, Lamington Road, Girgaum Chowpatty and Opera House.
