Stating the gesture to be a 'salt over their wounds’, Damu Nagar residents have started a rally, shouting slogans against the BJP-led government.
Situation has worsened in Kandivali’s Damu Nagar area, as survivors have taken to streets to protest against the government for offering insufficient compensation amount.
The victims had received only Rs 3,800 each family as a part of compensation from the government. Stating the gesture to be a 'salt over their wounds’, Damu Nagar residents have started a rally, shouting slogans against the BJP-led government. Protesters have also demanded to shut all shops in the area.

It may be recalled that a fire broke out in a plywood shop in Ekta Nagar, Kandivali West at around 2 pm on November 17, injuring several.
The protest is held outside a BEST bus depot, in the locality, causing heavy traffic congestion. Protesters are also preventing entry of any vehicle inside Damu Nagar. Sikander Inamdar, one of the protesters, said, “Till the Commissioner of Police reaches the spot to hear out our demands we are not going to quit."

As the victims continued to inconvenience other residents in the area, Vikas Rohole, a social activist said, “I am against this whole situation. At such times, many will come and try to provoke people into doing wrong. They should be careful and should not protest like this.”
Nearly 100-150 police officials have rushed to the spot, claiming protection to be the need of the hour. "The situation is likely to become more chaotic by evening. It may turn into a riot," police inspector Kamdar Umte said.
