A team of 25 doctors has been tending to the family that was seriously injured in the radio explosion in Beed on Friday. The four family members were brought to JJ Hospital from Kalegaon village of Kaij tehsil in Beed on Saturday night.

The injured are Om Nimbalkar, 32, the conductor of the Mumbai-Ambejogai bus where he found the abandoned radio, his mother Kusum, 60, wife Usha, 23, and son Kunal, 2.

Acting dean of JJ hospital Dr Ashok Rathod said, “Their injuries are serious and each person has hundreds of wounds on their bodies due to the intensity of the blast. Two orthosurgeries have already been performed on Om and Kusum and there will be more surgeries in the coming few days. It is difficult to say how long it will take them to heal.”

Nimbalkars' neighbour Manoj Kotawde said he doesn't know what led them to inspect an unclaimed object. “They are under observation and not allowed to talk to anyone. The explosion was severe and heard miles away from the blast site.”
