The Bombay high court on Wednesday asked the deputy commissioner of police (crime), Pune to supervise the probe being carried out by Koregaon Park Police, to ascertain whether the signature on the Will prepared by late spiritual guru, Osho (Bhagwan Rajneesh), is genuine.

A division bench of justice Naresh Patil and justice Prakash Naik directed the police to obtain a handwriting expert's report from state Criminal Investigation Department at the earliest, which would clarify whether the signature on the Will is that of Osho or not. Advocate Pradeep Havnur, appearing for Yogesh Thakkar, a disciple who has moved the high court seeking transfer of investigations into the First Information Report (FIR) filed by him in 2013 to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) on the grounds that the probe is heading nowhere.

Additional public prosecutor S Shinde informed the court that probe is almost complete, and the report of the handwriting expert is awaited. The report was sought in the year 2014. The court then asked her to speed up the process of obtaining the report.

Havnur said the FIR was filed under sections 465, 467 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code that pertain to 'punishment for forgery', 'forgery of valuable security, will' and 'using as genuine a forged document'.

The petition says some foreigners have systematically smuggled and siphoned off Osho's work, articles and yogic meditation techniques.

These work of Osho, besides having huge monetary considerations of millions of dollars per annum, is a rare spiritual heritage of India, which is a direct loss to national interests for generations to come. Moreover, the purity of Osho's work will be destroyed forever in the hands of the accused persons.

The FIR is lodged against six administrators of Osho Ashram, alleging that they produced a forged Will, dated 'October 15, 1989, Poona', of the spiritual mentor Osho, bearing his fake signature.

As per Thakkar, he came to know of the Will after it was presented by the administrators at a court in Europe in June 2013. The will was prepared in Pune and was presented by the trustees before the court 23 years after Osho's demise. As per the Will they produced, all six administrators are authorised to use the rights and income from Osho's intellectual property.

The court has now posted the matter for further hearing on August 12.
