In a shocking case, a 36- year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself with his own shirt at a bus stop in Mahim on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Amin. According to the police, the incident occurred on Tuesday night at 11 pm at Lady Jamshetjee road near Victoria high school at Mahim. Amin, a vegetable vendor, was heading home from work and hanged himself from a pole at the bus stop using his own shirt. The police said as the bus stop is not a crowded place and no one saw Amin while he was committing the act.

The incident came to light when a police constable on patrol duty saw him hanging from the pole. The constable immediately informed a control room and the body was taken down and rushed to Sion hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The police have not recovered a suicide note from the spot and are in the process of recording statements of his relatives.

Milind Idekar, Senior Police Inspector, Mahim police station, said, "We have registered an accidental death report in the matter and are trying to find a reason for his suicide. We did not find any suicide note in his possession. There is a possibility that the victim was suicidal and he committed suicide in an inebriated state."
