Vashi shop burglary case solved in two months

The accused stole sarees worth Rs71,905 from the shop in sector 3 of Vashi; his accomplices are absconding

A 25-year-old was arrested on Monday in connection with a two-moth-old burglary at a cloth shop in Vashi.

The police have also recovered a part of the stolen items from the accused. However, two of his accomplishes are still at large.

On the night of July 9, a saree shop, Diya, located in sector 3 of Vashi, was burgled and sarees worth Rs71,905 were stolen.

Sudhir Borse, who works at the shop, registered a complaint with the police the next day.

Acting on a tip-off, the Vashi police arrested Kalim Nawab Khan from his home in sector 10 of Koparkhairane on September 23.

They have also recovered the stolen sarees from his possession.

“We got information that Kalim was involved such crimes. When we interrogated him, he confessed to the burglary,” said a official from Vashi police station.

He added that Khan executed the crime along with two of his accomplishes, who are absconding.

The cost of saree recovered from him ranges between Rs6,000 and Rs10,000. “The shop is a quite popular for designer sarees.

And the accused was aware of this,” said the official.

Khan has been booked under sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code and will remain in police custody till September 25.

“Investigation are on to check whether the accused has a criminal background and if he executed similar crimes earlier,” said the official.
