After receiving several complains from various associations, the railway authorities have finally taken some steps for the convenience of the commuters at Vashi station. Now, the commuters will not have to face the problem of defunct speakers, missing fans and lights and water leakage at the station premises.

"Water leakage is one the major problems that the commuters have been facing at the station for the past couple of years. After discussing the matter with our engineers, we got some steel sheets installed at the joints and ceilings and the water now goes out through systematic pipleline. Our platforms are no longer slippery," said Sudarshan Khurana, station manager.

Because of the defunct speakers, the commuters could not listen to the important announcements from the railway. However, all such defunct speakers have now been replaced with new ones. "We have also installed new fans and lights at various spots at the station. More importantly, a few walls of the building which were in bad shape for years, have also been repaired and painted. Those areas have now been given an entirely new look," Khurana said.

Reshmi Mukharjee, a resident of Vashi said, "We are happy that the railway authorities have taken numerous steps for the convenience of the commuters. But, they still have enough to do. Indicators at several stations of the city still remain defunct. Very few stations have facility for drinking water on the platforms. The CVM machines are not functional most of the times. Such issues should also be taken into consideration."

"Cidco, responsible for the maintenance of the stations in the satellite city, is virtually taking no step for the convenience of the commuters. Public toilets at all railway stations are still in pathetic condition. If Cidco is not capable of looking after the station premises, they should hand over the responsibility to the railway department," said Abhijeet Dhurat, president of Navi Mumbai Railway Pravashi Welfare Association.
