Vasai youth plays for UAE in World Cup, parents want him to play for India

Disappointed by the Cricket Board due to lack of opportunities the Vasai Youth accepted the offer to play for UAE

The 30 years old youth belonging from a small village Darpale in Vasai is representing United Arab Emirates in the World Cup 2015 as a wicket keeper batsman while his parents back home are proudly watching him on TV and are receiving lots of appreciations from the family and friends since the tournament started. Disappointed with the cricket board for not giving him enough opportunity the youth chose to play for UAE.

Swapnil Patil, 30, a resident of Darpale Village in Vasai West in 2006 was invited by the Yogi group to play for the UAE domestic league and since then his journey did not stop as he was selected for the World Cup.

Vinod Tawde, State Minister for Education sent his letter of appreciation to the family members describing it as a proud moment for the country while the parents Prakash Patil and mother Pratima Patil are more than happy as they have been receiving calls of praises.

"Since Swapnil was 10 years old he started playing cricket and soon cricket became his favorite sport and we encouraged him but his hardwork and passion for the game took him to this stage of International cricket", said Prakash Patil.

"When my son represented various leagues in India he was often ignored and was made to sit during the matches but we still do not have grudges against the selectors as we believe in hard work and we are very happy that he achieved his dreams and would continue to be with his first love", Cricket, said Patil.

His wife, Manali Patil, says," I would have been more happy if he would have played for India but most importantly he is playing cricket be it any country or club. His hard work and practice took him at the top level cricket and I would support him throughout my life".

He was a part of the Mumbia Ranji Trophy probables for three years.

Swapnil made his Kanga League debut for United Cricketers at the age of 14. He also represented *Mumbai in U-14, U-19 and U-22 catergoriesm, however, he could not play for the senior team.

His job in UAE was of a sales representative with You Group's construcition arm.

ICC rules permits a player to play for a country after completing a four year qualification period which he achieved in 2010.

Patil made his international debut for UAE against Bermuda in 2010.

He is a wicket-keeper batsman of te UAE team.

As a middle order batsman he scored 99

Union Bank contract:

Rohit Bhalla, an old teammate of Swapnil, said: "We played Mumbai U-16 together and then we played on contract for Union Bank more than two years back. He was a very hard working cricketer and a dedicated one. Coming all the way from Vasai is a tough task but still he would manage to be there on time. He was shy by nature and would express himself through his game. We are in touch through Facebook and Whatsapp sometimes."
