In the first-ever initiative by a civic body, the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation has, on a trial basis, launched the initial phase of enabling the entire Vasai-Virar area with WiFi connectivity. Often referred to as Wireless Internet, WiFi is also called Wireless Fidelity. Residents will be able to access the facility anywhere in the corporation's jurisdiction.
Routers will be placed at several points to enable users to access the Internet on the streets and at public places.

"A core team of IT experts is tackling technical issues. They are facing hurdles as WiFi requires stable frequency to send its signals. We will be using the 4G network for better speed and connectivity," said Kshitij Thakur, MLA, Nalasopara.

"We have tried the routers at several locations and are trying to make it feasible for connectivity in every part of Vasai-Virar. While the civic body will take a decision on its execution, it will take time for its launch. This is one of the most ambitious projects we were looking forward to. It is going to be a reality soon," said Thakur.
