Nine girls, including three Muslim siblings, belonging to a Vasai orphanage have complained to the police against the 'sister' running the home. While the three siblings have alleged that they were forcibly made to eat pork, the others said they were assaulted and harassed by the 'sister' without rhyme or reason.

The minor children living in the Handmaids of the Blessed Trinity Rosa Mystica convent at Madi Naka in Vasai West complained to the police about the torture and humiliation they were subjected to. The three Muslim girls alleged that they were forced to eat leftover food which had pork in it.

Seema Creado, a former teacher with the orphanage, said, "I could see that the kids were given stale food with fungus all over it. The worst part is that they were tortured and forced to convert. The kids were not given food for several days after they denied eating stale jam. Sister Eliza later forced them to eat bread, which was kept for a week."

Father of the Muslim girls from Diva told dna, "We don't want the kids to suffer anymore. Earlier, they used to complain quite often but we turned a blind eye, thinking they were doing this to come back home. After we learnt that they were forced to eat pork, we decided to bring them back and made them join another school."

Narrating their ordeal, the elder sibling said, "Sister told us that if we complain to the police, her staff will rape. Instead of softening their stand, they abused us and made us work full day."

Anita Bhagat, investigation officer from Vasai police station, said, "We have booked sister Eliza and other staff members of the orphanage under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act. We had sent them a notice but they did not come to give their version. Instead, they took anticipatory bail from the Vasai court."

When dna contacted sister Eliza, she refused to comment, saying: "I can't tell you anything, I'm busy." Thereafter, she didn't take calls from this correspondent, nor did she call back.
