In a daring crime committed near the office of the deputy superintendent of police in Vasai, three masked men wearing track suits broke into a mobile store outside Vasai railway station early on Monday morning and decamped with cellphones and cash worth about Rs 45 lakh. They snapped the CCTV camera wires in the shop but some of their activity has been captured.

They stole about 200 cellphones and tablets, police said. Two years ago, too, miscreants had attempted to break into the shop but had failed.

"When we reached the shop we found that the shop's shutters were broken, and when we went inside, we found cellphones missing and CCTV camera wires had been snapped," said Mayur Gala, owner of the shop.

"Their activity was captured. They were dressed as morning walkers and were wearing t-shirts and track pants with sport shoes. They filled their plastic bags with phones and tablets of leading brands. We will submit the bills to the police," said Gala.

"We have registered a case of house breaking, theft and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and are investigating further," said KS Hegaje, senior inspector, Manickpur police station.
