As evidence of harassment, a Vasai court judge has ordered that CCTV cameras be installed inside a home and the footage be submitted to the court every month.

One Vishwanath Mhatre has filed a complaint, claiming his son, Bhushan, and daughter-in-law, Aparna, are harassing him and his wife Veena and trying to evict them from the house, which is on joint ownership.

Bhushan, 38, is an employee with a IT firm in Andheri, while 33-year-old Aparna is a principal at a school.

They all live in a bungalow at Pali village in Vasai, and the father and son are locked in a property dispute in court over the ownership of the house.

Vishwanath approached Vasai civil court to seek directions to install CCTV cameras inside the house to record the alleged harassment meted out to him and his wife.

They claim the couple abuse them verbally, leave the gas cylinder valve open, throw vessels from the kitchen rake and throw away vessels containing milk.

After hearing the arguments from both side, H.A.H.I Hashmi, Joint Civil Judge of Vasai court ordered that five CCTV cameras be installed inside the house, and the footage be submitted to the court in the first week of every month until further orders from the court.

"After the court, my father and younger brother entered the house and started installing cameras inside the bathroom and bedroom, to which we objected," said Bhushan. "They assaulted me and so I reported the matter to Vasai police.

"Our right to privacy has been compromised," added Aparna, "and so we have complained to Women's commission and National Human Rights Commission."

Noel Dabre, the advocate for Bhushan and Aparna said, "We have complained to Chief Justice of Bombay High Court and Chief District Judge against joint civil judge H.A.H.I Hashmi for giving unjust order and have requested the Chief Justice to look into the matter."

"It is a clear case of violation of constitutional rights," said Dabre. "This is first such order in which the judge has directed to install CCTV cameras inside the house."
