A 65-year-old throat cancer patient from Vasai, Joseph Lopes, has gone missing after visiting Goa's ongoing exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier. Lopes's family has had no trace of him for the past five days.

Lopes, a resident of Manickpur in Vasai West, on December 15 attended the exposition at the Se Cathedral in old Goa with 30 other tourists from various parishes in Vasai. Two days later, he went missing during a trip to the local market.

"After praying at the church, the group went shopping in the Panjim market on the evening of December 17. Since then we have lost touch with him (Lopes). We took our car and made enquiries in Panjim. A bus driver at the Panjim bus stop informed us that he had seen him asking for the bus to Mumbai," said Cynthia Lopes, his daughter.

"My father could not speak properly because of his throat cancer. He wanted to pray to St Francis Xavier for will power to survive," said Cynthia.
