Several police personnel, although condemning the incident, feel that such acts of violence were waiting to happen in the police force due to their stressful working conditions. Many officers at the lower-rung of the department feel that they are under tremendous stress in the department and there is nobody to hear them out. The frustration has taken toll on many officers forcing them to quit or confront their seniors. From long work hours, graveyard shifts, less number of leaves to constant pressure from above and unclear demarcation of duty, the department seems to be in shambles when it comes to ensuring welfare of its officers.

An officer from Bandra police said, "We have absolutely no idea what our designated duties are. Sometimes we have to be part of bandobust and patrolling, at at other times we have to do passport verification and raids. It is very chaotic and stressful. We work for a minimum of 14 hours and still get harassed by our superiors. Sometimes we do not get the weekly offs we are entitled to."

The work load is not equally divided between APIs, PSIs, constables and police naiks.

Several officers feel that the only way is to have an independent body to look after the grievances of the officers. "We have nobody to approach. There should be a separate body to look after the welfare of all the officers formed by the home department which should have people from outside the police force as well," said an officer.
