The Vakola police have arrested four suspects out of a six on Sunday who had allegedly stolen US dollars and gold ornaments worth Rs92 lakh from a 74-year-old non-resident-Indian (NRI), Ramesh Premjibhai Badiyani.
The suspects have been identified as Sumit Pande, 26, driver of the victim, and his father Ramtej Pandey, 52, Hasmukh Sharma, 42, a carpenter and Hajarabano Ansari, 28. However, two more suspects are wanted in this case, Ansari's husband, who is auto driver and his friend.
Badiyani, a Juhu resident, went to Mahabaleshwar last week along with his family. So, he shifted all his valuables to his relative's place in Vakola at Santa Cruz (East). Since the relative also went to Kerala, Pande, who had shifted the valuables from Badiyani's place took help of the other accused and broke into the place in Vakola on February 19.
"We interrogated Pande as he was the only person who knew about the valuables. His father helped to hide the stolen booty," said Milind Bharambe, additional commissioner of police (west region).
