Following the arrest of 40-year-old Nalasopara resident Vaibhav Raut by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) with alleged possession crude bombs, his neighbours and friends are in a state of shock.

Closed ones and relatives of Raut claimed that he has been falsely dragged into this case and the arrest have been made on basis of superficial claims by the police and no concrete evidence have been presented by the ATS.

"There is absolutely no question or doubt or suspicion against Vaibhav Raut because we have been staying near him for decades and we have never seen anything unusual activities or operations going at his house or at his office. He is a spiritual and humble man by conduct and has always stood for promoting peace and spirit of Hinduism in the society," said Amol Raut, neighbor of Vaibhav Raut.

He added, "Prior to this incident, nobody from the ATS or local police had made any visit to Vaibhav's place in the recent time. Vaibhav has no links with any criminal or politician. This is simply a cooked up story put by the ATS to frame him. The entire operation was conducted to bring the Hindu organisations and Vaibhav in a bad light. We were not even shown a copy of search warrant and other documents and this arrest is purely illegal."

Raut who is into real estate business, resides with his mother, wife and two children. He is also known for his role against preventing cow slaughter in his locality due to which he faced legal action in 2014 where he was arrested and his supporters had called for Nalasopara Bandh at that time.

Diptesh Patil, a close aide and associate of Raut said, "It seems that the ATS is trying to recreate the Malegaon blast crime scene where innocent people were put behind the bars for no reason. Raut's arrest is exactly the same scenario where only because of his right wing religious affiliation he is being targeted. The ATS did now show what they have seized and did not bother to inform anything related to case."

Some Hindu organizations have decided to back Raut by calling a Nalasopara Bandh this Sunday.
