A 49-year-old laborer from Uttar Pradesh, who was impaled by an L-shape iron rod, will soon be discharged from St George Hospital in a few days, after doctors operated upon him to remove the rod three weeks ago.
The laborer, identified as Ram Suresh Yadav, was working in an under-construction building at Cuff Parade when an iron rod fell on him from one of the top floors of the 25th-floor under-construction building.
The incident happened on March 10. The rod had entered through his thigh and he was immediately rushed to St George Hospital without any further delay. The doctors took him for an emergency surgery after a few tests and x-ray.
According to the doctors, 20 cms of the rod got impaled inside his thigh. Dr Aviral Jain, a surgeon at St George Hospital, said: "Luckily, the rod did not hit any of his bones. The operation lasted almost an hour and he is now recovering well. He has been kept on high nutrition and physio exercise."
Ram Yadav said: "I am now able to walk with the help of walkers. Two rods fell down from the building. While one fell beside me, another rod got impaled into my thigh. I usually wear safety gears, but that day I was not wearing any."
Yadav was watering some construction material when the incident took place. The company is helping him financially to pay the hospital bills.
"He is being given physiotherapy to recover. While now he is walking with the help of the walker, in three to four months, he will be able to walk freely like before. Since there are no major injuries, there won't be any complications," added Dr Jain.
