Upset over tout's behaviour, Tardeo RTO staff go on daylong strike

Work at Tardeo RTO came to a standstill on Saturday after the staff went on a daylong strike. They were upset after an agent misbehaved with three staff members on Friday.

According to an RTO official, around 5pm on Friday a tout from the neighbouring slum entered the premises and started abusing two staffers, including a physically challenged woman. The unidentified tout then allegedly flung a computer on the ground and told the staff to "not to carry out certain work". He also manhandled a clerk there and threatened him with dire consequences.

Thrice in the last one month there have been incidents of fire at Tardeo, Nagpur and Thane RTOs, suspected to have been ignited by touts after they were banned from entering the premises and interfering in the day-to-day functioning.
