If you are returning from Girgaum Chowpatty after Ganesh visarjan on September 5, do not go to Charni Road station to catch a train back home. The Western Railway (WR) would not be halting 70 trains at Charni Road during evening peak hours from 5pm to 10pm.

"Considering the heavy rush at Charni Road station due to Ganpati immersion, it has been decided that all slow trains on the Up line (towards Churchgate) will not halt on platform 2," said Gajanan Mahatpurkar, spokesperson, Western Railway.

Sources said that the platform is too narrow to contain the huge crowd coming to see the Ganesh immersion. Authorities will, however, allow a halt of all Up fast trains from Borivali/Virar from 5.30pm to 8.30pm between Mumbai Central and Churchgate. Normally, during evening peak hours, these services do not halt.

The WR will also run an additional eight services between Churchgate and Virar. These will depart from Churchgate at 1.15am, 1.55am, 2.25am and 3.20am respectively. In the Up direction, these extra locals will depart from Virar at 12.15am, 12.45am, 1.40am and 3am for Churchgate.

Similarly the Central Railway will run eight special trains between CSMT-Kalyan/Thane on Main line and CSMT-Panvel on Harbour line. It will leave CSMT at 1.30am for Kalyan and Panvel, 2.30am for Thane and 2.45am for Panvel. Trains shall depart Kalyan and Panvel respectively at 1am, Thane at 2am and another from Panvel at 1.45am for CSMT.
