The University of Mumbai (MU) will get a new Professor Bal Apte Centre for Studies in Students and Youth Movements starting from Monday. Balavant Parashuram Apte was the national president of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a students' welfare group. This centre will be a unique one in the country, which will bring the youth from across the globe to learn about youth movements and revolution related to pre-independence, post-independence and contemporary studies.
The University of Mumbai (MU) will get a new Professor Bal Apte Centre for Studies in Students and Youth Movements starting from Monday. Balavant Parashuram Apte was the national president of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a students' welfare group. This centre will be a unique one in the country, which will bring the youth from across the globe to learn about youth movements and revolution related to pre-independence, post-independence and contemporary studies.
The state government has provided a budget of Rs 25 crore for this centre which will have certificate courses to PhD level courses. Lack of proper training courses for the youth is one of the prime reason to launch this centre.
It will have PhD courses along with short-term and long-term certification courses at the Studies in Students and Youth Movement Centre. In the starting stage, it will have a five-day certificate course for students. The research project, on the other hand, will include minor and major projects - that will conduct in-depth research on aspects related to students and youth movements in association with various nationally-functioning organisations like Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR).
According to officials, the centre will conduct national and international seminars every year. It is said to have art galleries, library with research materials made by using the audio-visual media.
The decision was first approved in the month of February this year by the cabinet. Apart from the Rs 25 crore, Rs 58.78 lakh will be given separately for recurring expenditure.
