The city saw an unexpected respite from the heat, as moisture-bearing winds resulted in a light drizzle on Tuesday. The winds were earlier only to travel to Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), but the forecast was later revised to include some parts of Western Maharashtra.

While Thane and Mulund areas saw light precipitation by morning, as dusk approached, the clouds had moved closer to the heart of the city. Colaba too witnessed a light shower around sunset.

On Monday evening, however, the IMD had not anticipated the rains to reach Mumbai city.

Director of weather forecast, IMD, VK Rajeev said, "We revised our forecast later. There was some air circulation over Gujarat that traveled till Mumbai. As this circulation was carrying moisture, there was a brief spell of rain in the city."

"These are pre-monsoon showers and will not last very long. The weather is expected to remain cloudy, but it is unlikely that it will rain again."

The maximum temperature for Tuesday was a pleasant 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 23 degrees Celsius.

"The weather had been pleasant for the past couple of days but the afternoon sun was quite bright, so I didn't think it would rain. As it was a light shower, it wasn't much of an inconvenience and has made the weather extremely pleasant," said 26-year-old Sion resident Karan Shah.
