Seven years after the sensational murder of senior crime journalist Jyotirmay Dey, the MCOCA court today convicted underworld don Chhota Rajan in the case.

The court acquitted journalist Jigna Vora and NCP activist Paulson Joseph in the case.

The court found Rajan guilty of ordering the murder of J Dey.

Dey, a veteran crime reporter, was shot dead near his residence at Hiranandani Gardens in Powai on June 11, 2011, by motorcycle-borne shooters allegedly at Rajan's command.

Four persons on two bikes fired at Dey, who was also riding a bike. After the attack, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The prime evidence in the case was the depositions submitted by Dey's wife and friend. The prosecution also relied on the confessions of Arun Dhake, one of the shooters.

In addition, the prosecution has also relied on telephonic conversations between Rajan and several journalists, where the don allegedly confessed to the crime.
