Undergrad students at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay have bagged job offers with slightly higher pay package than postgrads, even as the seniors pipped them in number of job offers, says the statistics released by the institute after completion of first phase of the campus placement on 18 December.

However, the total salary package offered by major companies this year is lower than last year, say sources. The Average Salary this year is Rs11.32 lakhs.

About 275 companies visited the campus for the hiring process and have selected close to 950 students across all the programmes. The Institute didn’t provide number of students who registered for the campus placement. A year ago, 1,300 students including UG and PG were registered for campus placement.

“Total 309 B Tech students have received job offers while 371 M Tech and 169 Dual Degree students are also placed in the first phase. The percentage of students placed is higher in Dual Degree and M. Tech students against the B. Tech one,” states the Institute’s release.

Job offers have been pouring in from various companies in the last couple of weeks at the IITB.

Over 1/3rd of the placements are in the Engineering & Technology sector while 20% students are placed in IT/Software sector. Over 15% jobs came from Finance sector, 15% from Analytics and 10% from R&D and Consulting sector 10.

Maximum number of offers came from Intel Technologies which gave 28 offers followed by Samsung which gave 20 offers. Research and Development companies which gave 15-19 offers were: Dar-Al, CitiCorp, and Siksha’O’Anusandhan University.

Companies who gave more than 10 offers were: Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm,  Axis Bank, Credit Suisse, DataXU and Future First.

The Phase-2 of Placement Season will commence from January 2017.
