The Anti-Extortion Cell of Mumbai police arrested a 39-year-old arms dealer on Thursday from Dongri, who had come there to sell the arms in Mumbai. The accused has been identified as Abdul Sattar Abdul Rehaman, a resident of Pydhonie.
According to the police, they had received information that the accused would be arriving at New Bangalipura, Dongri with arms and ammunition. Following the tip-off, an AEC team led by Senior police inspector Vinayak Vast laid a trap and nabbed the accused, and have recovered firearms and 67 cartridges.
“The accused was an Unani Hakim by profession but since he was in need of money he was looking to sell the ammunition. We are trying to ascertain where he got arms and who he was going to sell it to,” said a crime branch officer. Rehaman is in police custody till August 21.
