On Sunday, when people enjoyed a lazy weekend at home, residents of Ulhasnagar took to filling potholes in their area. Residents of Ulhasnagar spent their morning filling potholes in camp four, Kurla camp of Ulhasnagar.
The residents say that they did this since the road is accident prone, and their civic body is apathetic towards this problem.

"Fifteen days ago, a woman fell into the pothole and died. Because of the incident and seriousness of the issue, we decided to address it as soon as possible as our municipal corporation is least bothered," said Satyajit Burman, president of Ulhasnagar citizens forum.

The residents filled 1km stretch of road from Prabhat to Kailash colony using soft sand found at construction sites. The potholes were six feet deep and ranged from 50 to 500 feet. "We filled potholes some of which were 50 feet, 100 feet and even 500 feet long. It could probably go down in the Limca book of records as the longest potholes," he said, sarcastically.

The residents also did white bordering to potholes which they could not fill up. "This is to warn people as it is visarjan time, and people take this route. There should not be any accidents hence, the white border," he adds.

The residents say that if their civic body fails to address the issue, they will stop paying taxes. "The Ulhasnagar municipal corporation cannot provide us with water, and has failed miserably at maintaining the roads. Then why should we pay taxes?" he asks.
