The next two days are likely to be just as wet with the regional meteorological department in Colaba issuing warning of "heavy to very heavy" rainfall. According to the weatherman, Thane and North Konkan areas too will receive very heavy rainfall.

A torrential Thursday
On Thursday, it rained constantly in the island city and suburbs. While Colaba recorded 40mm rainfall, Santa Cruz recorded 47.4mm between 8.30am and 5.30pm.

The season so far
The onset of monsoon this year was close to a week late, on June 15, but weather officials said in July the rainfall has been better than expected. Since the start till July 31, Colaba has recorded 1,410.6mm rainfall and Santa Cruz has recorded 1,556mm. "We have crossed the expected average rainfall of 1,290.3mm for Colaba and 1,358mm for Santa Cruz as of July 31," said KS Hosalikar, deputy director general of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Mumbai.
This monsoon, July 16 has been deemed as the wettest day with 228.4mm rainfall recorded over 24 hours on that day.

Incessant rain dips temperatures
Frequent spells of rain in the city and suburbs have led to the atmosphere cooling, bringing the temperatures down to a maximum of 28 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius. Humidity was maintained at 95% to 98%.

Doppler radar under the weather?
The Doppler radar installed by the IMD in Navy Nagar, which forecasts weather and issues warnings in real time, has been reeling under a technical snag for over a week now. "The engineers are working on repairing the snag. The Doppler 'nowcasts' weather information for the next six to eight hours. It issues warnings for sudden weather changes, but has not been operational for a week," Hosalikar told dna.
