The BMC standing committee on Friday unanimously cleared the proposal to build a flyover at the SV Road junction in Goregaon (West) and a foot over bridge near the Eastern Express Highway, close to the Aarey Colony where the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road is coming up. Senior civic officials from the bridges department said the work on both projects is expected to start in a month.

The BMC has chalked out a plan to build the flyover at the SV Road junction after a wait of 15 years. The flyover will be 458-metre long and 11.50-metre wide. The cost

The SV Road junction at Goregaon is one of those areas in the city where the road traffic is the worst hit. Haphazard parking of vehicles, unauthorised shops and hawkers at the roadside contribute to the traffic chaos.
How will it help traffic?
Officials say once the flyover is constructed, it will help ease traffic congestion at the junction considerably.
A consultant was appointed by the BMC to carry out a feasibility study in the area and based on the consultant's report, the BMC had floated tenders, after which a firm was short listed to carry out the work.

Simillarly, following repeated demands from residents of the western suburbs of Goregaon, the BMC has proposed to construct a foot over bridge near the Eastern Express Highway, close to the Aarey Colony. construction of the FOB is estimated to cost Rs2.18 lakh.
According to a senior civic official, residents of the area have been having problems in the crossing the road because of heavy traffic congestion in the area.
