Two killed in separate road accidents in Mumbai

A 19-year-old student died at Marine Drive on Saturday while he was crossing the road with two of his friends. The deceased has been identified as Manzoor Shaikh, who was studying in Akbar Peerbhoy College of Commerce and Economics at Grant Road.

According to the police, the incident took place around 11:30 am when Shaikh was returning home in Dharavi. A private tourist car ran over Shaikh.

"He sustained several injuries and succumbed to them around 6:30 am on Sunday during treatment at JJ Hospital. We arrested the car's driver, Selva Kumar Kankraj Nadar, 32, immediately after registering an FIR. He was released on bail by the honorable court on Saturday. Following Shaikh's death, we will now add more sections in the FIR," said a police officer.

In another hit-and-run case in Samta Nagar in Kandivili, a 30-year-old unidentified man died after he was mowed down by a private bus near Samata Nagar police station on Saturday evening. After the accident, the bus driver left the bus behind and fled from the spot.

The Samata Nagar police have registered a case and arrested the bus driver late on Sunday night. However, the identity of the deceased has not been revealed yet.

"We checked his clothes however there was no mobile phone, wallet or any documents that could help us to identify him. We are checking if any missing complaint has been registered in nearby police stations about the deceased and have informed all the police stations about the same," said Anil Mane, senior police inspector, Samta Nagar police station.
